Mobilemonday Shanghai tackled the issue on April 23, 2007.

Over 450 Mil mobile subscribers in China, but how many really access internet content on their tiny phone screen?

Research shows than less than 10% do it regularly. Low bandwidth is the convenient culprit as 3G has yet to be deployed here, but what about user-friendliness, tailor-made content and simply readability for smaller screens? Microsoft Deepfish, Yahoo! Go 2.0, Nokia Widsets, Openwave Mobile Widgets, Opera Mini, ZenZui are a host of new solutions addressing the very needs, and for some provide an integrated user experience, encompassing mobile community, mobile RSS, search and other contents.

Three key players, Nokia, Openwave and Opera, will help us understand how they have done it, what problems are still lingering, and how they finally hope to drive usage.

• Ding Gang (Mike), Widsets China Director, Nokia.

Mike joined Nokia Emerging Business Unit in 2004. Mike has 15 years IT/Telecom experience in China, US and Asia serving multinational companies Intel, HP and Nokia. Recently before joining Nokia, Mike worked in the VC industry in China

MobileMonday is a community of mobile, media and internet professionals, which promotes the mobile and digital industries and fosters cooperation and networking among industry people and their companies by providing opportunities for personal and virtual contacts.

As a non-profit organization, we exist thanks to the generosity of our sponsors and partners. In return, we provide unprecedented local coverage (live and online) and global reach (through our networking with mobilemonday chapters around the world).

Thanks to your renewed interest and positive feed-back on past events, we thrive to do better, more punchy and interesting every new event.

Popularity comes at a price – cash (more guests = more room, more drinks etc). Why not becoming our partner in your turn and helping us “keep up the good work”? In return, we garantee you/your company significant online and live coverage for several months on the local and regional telecom and Media scene.

If interested, please contact either of us (Bruno, Sage or Ranjit) offline or at our next event, and let’s chat!
